Our Operations Centre
OptiComm's Network Operations Centre is located in a suburb of Hobart, Tasmania. Developed for our role with NBNco and opened in April 2010 by Senator Stephen Conroy - Minister for Communications, it is used to support and monitor our the network throughout Australia.
Our centre is the main point of contact for Retail Service Providers operating over the OptiComm network and the team is well experienced in delivering FTTP, RF, IPTV and LAN/WAN services and have worked with all the major RSPs.
The facility - while small in comparison to some of Australia's largest carriers - is second to none when it comes to its Operational Support Systems. Developed using customised off the shelf and in house developed software, it follows the ITU-T (M.3010) standards for infrastructure and Telecommunications Management. We also use the Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) as the over arching methodology to help us implement a number of important practices within the centre. ITIL provides us with comprehensive checklists, tasks and procedures that have been tailored to our needs, ensuring professional and methodogical approach to the management of our network and client networks.
The IT Infrastructure supporting the NOC is located in a class 1 data centre facility in Melbourne and mirrored in Sydney. This ensures the highest level of sustained operations in the event of a disaster; be that either equipment or facility failure. We also have a backup operations centre within our engineering facility in Perth, so in the event of a disaster we have immediate failover from one data centre to another and/or one operations centre to the other. Being that everything is run in parrallel there is no time lost in the switch over should such an event occur.
