Conduit and Cabinet

Apart from the cabling required to deliver the Internet, Telephone and other services throughout the residents’ home there are two further key elements that need to be addressed at the planning stage.

Firstly a white telecommunications conduit needs to be included in the building contract. This must be installed from the location of the pre-installed network starter pipe at the property boundary point to a location near the Electricity Supply Meter Box. Note that in some OptiComm Estates the Developers’ Design Guidelines require a “combo” Electricity and Telecommunication Enclosure be installed. It in now mandatory for ALL new homes to be built with a Telecommunications enclosure for use by Opticomm, NBNco or any other FTTH provider.

Secondly, a location for the Telecommunication Enclosure will house the OptiComm Network Termination Device or NTD needs to be considered and planned for. This is the electronics device that converts the Optical Light Signals from our Optic Fibre cable to the copper based services that will allow us to distribute the Internet, Telephone, IPTV, FTA TV and other services around your clients home. It needs to be near the Electricity supply Meter box. The exit point for these pre-wire cables, (see Home Wiring information above) needs to be slightly off set compared to the location that the telecommunications conduit exits the ground. This is so that the cabling inside the enclosure will not foul the mounting of the NTD inside the enclosure.

OptiComm has produced a Cable Entry Guide to assist you with the planning and scoping of the activities required to achieve the Conduit and Cabinet requirements as briefly outlined above. OptiComm’s Cable Entry Guide can be accessed from the following Link.
