Wiring Your Home
In today's digital multimedia entertainment lifestyle our iPods, SmartTVs, PVRs, Computers, and gaming consoles are all able to be networks together to share information and content. And of course there is "THE CLOUD" which everyone is talking about, allowing communications from around the world from so many different devices, not just a computer.
An OptiComm Fibre Connected Community means you don’t need any antennas or satellite dishes on your roof and you are connected to an array of the most advanced broadband services in Australia - even better than the NBN. Our Quick Start Guide provides a minimum specification of requirements we suggest for a home connecting to the Opticomm Fibre Network along with an basic wiring specification diagram.
Alternatively, if you want to truly "Smart Wire" your home, OptiComm has produced a document that can assist you with the planning for distribution of the High Speed Broadband Internet, telephone and other services throughout every room. It is critically important that you plan your cabling requirements for installation at frame stage. OptiComm’s Home Wiring Guide provides extensive details of how to wire your home to make best use of the network's capabilities and the modern multimedia entertainment lifestyle.
Whatever you do we always recommend you use an ACMA licensed cabler. The ACMA has published a Consumer Advice Pamphlet on cabling your home. There is also the Telecommunications Cabling Advice form (called the TCA1) which every cabler/builder should provide to you on handover.
You can download all these documents by left clicking on their links and selecting "save as".
What about using Wireless?
Wireless is a great technology for mobility devices such as iPads, iPods, Tablets, WiFi Music Players and laptops by the pool. But there is a limitation with wireless, and that is interference which ultimately affects the performance of the network. For web browsing and email, wireless delivers a fine performance, but with streaming media (such as watching a movie), transfering large files (such as graphics), or video conferencing you will immediately notice the problems of interference and it will effect your user experience.
To take the best advantage of the power of Fibre to the Home we recommend all devices are hard wired (with cable) where possible and use wireless for your mobile devices like those listed above.
