Opticomm and Safe City applications make a splash

19 June 2019 – Opticomm, in conjunction with Greenfields Development Corporation, developer of Oran Park Town in South Western Sydney, has commenced a study of Safe City applications for their upcoming $9m splash park.

Today, Oran Park Town is home to 6,000 residents and when complete will house 50,000 residents and provide 18 hectares of employment lands, a 50,000 square metre Town Centre, two neighbourhood centres, 36 kilometres of walking tracks and cycleways and 148 hectares of open green space.

Ron’s Creek splash park, now under construction, will feature wet and dry play equipment as well as community facilities. The water park is joint-funded by Camden Council and Oran Park Town developers, Greenfields Development Company.

Opticomm is investigating ‘safe city’ technology options, their recommended siting and the required fibre connectivity routing within the splash park, as well as within the interconnected community pedestrian thoroughfares and parklands.  The study includes CCTV, Community WiFi hot-spots and Smart Poles that have the potential to act as a ‘technology hub’. Each device, including future applications like 5G small cells, will be enabled by Opticomm’s precinct-wide Fibre-to-the-Premises network.

Mick Owens, General Manager at Greenfields Development Corporation says: “Customer satisfaction drives our ongoing appointment with Opticomm in continuing to provide a successful Telecommunications system into the future. Opticomm’s service integrates into the development process very well with easy design / construction coordination and delivery of a reliable ongoing network to our residents. Opticomm’s experience is key to our study of ‘Safe City’ applications, like CCTV, that can contribute towards a safer Oran Park Town community.”

Paul Cross, CEO of Opticomm said “Opticomm’s Fibre-to-the-Premises network delivers more than just data and voice services, this a key enabler for the cost-effective deployment of ‘safe city’ applications.  In 2009 Opticomm started deploying innovative fibre solutions in Oran Park, instead of the then available dialup/DSL, we’re proud Greenfields chose to trust us then and now to help deliver a connected ‘safe city’ community. This highly-valued 10 year partnership has ensured that over 3,000 Oran Park Town homes, businesses, schools, community and local government facilities, parks and smart poles are connected via our superfast Fibre-to-the-Premises network.
